Purpose

The requirement for a Planning and Zoning Commission is contained in State Statute (Arizona Revised Statute 11-802) as are the Commission’s duties. The Commission's primary duty is to advise the Board of Supervisors in managing the orderly growth and physical development of Mohave County and to protect the health, safety, morals and general welfare of its citizens. The Commission will make changes to further the public interest but will not alter plans or review regulations solely for any individual, group or organization for their personal caprice, convenience or profit.

On the second Wednesday of each month, the Planning and Zoning Commission holds its monthly meeting to review applications wherein the applicants are requesting changes to their property in the form of a Rezone, Special Use Permit, Extensions of Time, Rescissions, Abandonments, Naming of Roads and Road Name Extensions, Subdivision Preliminary Plans and Petitions of Exception, General Plan and Area Plans Amendments.

The Commission also hears requests from the Department for any changes to the Mohave County Zoning Ordinance. The Commission hears each request at a public hearing, takes additional public testimony, and then makes a recommendation to the Mohave County Board of Supervisors regarding each request. The requests will then go forward to the Board of Supervisors regularly scheduled meeting the following month.

This page allows you to view the Agenda Book (information relating to each applicant’s request going forward to that particular month’s Commission meeting), any correspondence received after the Agenda Book is mailed out to the Commissioners, and the results of that meeting, via the Action Agenda. You can also view the approved minutes of each month’s meeting.
