Water Quality Management

Section 208 of the Clean Water Act of 1977 requires the establishment of water quality management plans, to plan for, and adequately and efficiently accommodate the sewerage needs of existing populations and that of projected growth, while ensuring the high quality of water resources.

Mohave County's current Area Wide Water Quality Management (208) Plan was approved by the Board of Supervisors on December 15, 2003, per BOS Resolution No. 2003-407. The plan is available at this site, along with subsequent amendments.

The 208 Plan is not a plan for the county or cities to extend sewer services, but a plan that will help those agencies determine where such services are needed, and where they should be required of existing or new development. In this regard, the 208 Plan complements and corresponds with the applicable jurisdiction's Comprehensive or General Plan, regulations, ordinances, and adopted facility plans. The plan includes all of the incorporated cities and the unincorporated areas of the county. Mohave County is the Designated Planning Agency that implements the 208 Plan, in coordination with input by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.
