Client Indigent Decedents program (CIDS):
The Mohave County Public Fiduciary is authorized by the Mohave County Board of Supervisors to administer the County Indigent Decedent Services (CIDS). This program is extended to all persons with a relative or friend who has died in Mohave County. Program eligibility is determined by solvency of the parties responsible pursuant to -Arizona Law 536-831. Responsible parties are defined by statute as: Surviving spouse, Power of Attorney, Parents (of a minor), Adult children, Parent, Adult sibling, Adult grandchild, Grandparent, Adult who exhibited special care and concern for the dead person, Guardian, Any person who has the authority to dispose of the dead person's body, and if none of the persons named above are financially capable of providing for the burial or other funeral and disposition arrangements, or cannot be located on reasonable inquiry, responsibility can be on any person or fraternal, charitable or religious organizations willing to assume responsibility. Applicants, the responsible party as listed above, of the decedent, may apply for county indigent decedent services.

All applicants are required to be interviewed by the (CIDS) coordinator to determine eligibility. An investigation is performed to gain supporting data including but not limited to: Checking financial institution balances, Property ownership and Person search work. The determination period averages approximately two to three weeks from the date the application is submitted until final determination, depending on the specific circumstances unique to each case. If the applicant is determined eligible to receive financial assistance from the County for the arrangements of their deceased loved one, there are certain regulations that govern the services allowed:
FUNERAL HOME SERVICES: The services provided are set forth by a contract between the County and the Provider Funeral Home.
BURIAL SERVICES: Graveside cemetery ceremonies are not available in the County Cemetery at Mountain View Cemetery, Kingman, Arizona. Currently, Chloride Cemetery, in Chloride, AZ, is the cemetery used for indigent burials.
DEATH CERTIFICATES: The Public Fiduciary may not provide death certificates to the family of the indigent decedent. Death Certificates can be applied for through Mohave County Public Health/Vital Records for those that died in Mohave County at 928-753-0748, or go to Mohave County's website at www.mohave.gov
APPLYING: Costs to the county are based on contracts with independent contractors. The responsible party, as listed above, is statutorily responsible for payment of their relative's final arrangements. When applying to the County Indigent Decedent Program, any false information submitted on the application, regarding financial status, may cause your application to be rejected. All income verification must be current.
The option of donating a loved one's body for research is available to all families of deceased. Please work with your funeral home or call a body donation facility. Donation of the body must be arranged within 3 days from date of death.
