Senior Programs

Senior Programs operates three senior nutrition centers in Mohave County:  

Kingman

Each center prepares hot, nutritious meals that are served at the center (congregate meals) and that are delivered to homebound clients (meals on wheels).

Homebound meals are currently provided in the following communities:  
Kingman, Lake Havasu, Golden Shores, Golden Valley, and Mohave Valley.  Other outlying communities in the county are served by a separate agency that contracts with WACOG and provides frozen meals via overnight delivery.

Senior Programs is funded by a variety of sources including:

  • Western Arizona Council of Governments (contractor)
  • Mohave County General Fund
  • Arizona Long Term Care, AHCCCS (contractor)
  • Congregate and Homebound client meal donations
  • Citizen Donations
  • Senior Center Site Council In-Kind Support

 Congregate meals are available to the following individuals:

  • Individuals age sixty or older
  • The spouse of an individual age sixty or older – the spouse may be of any age
  • An individual with a disability, under age sixty who resides in a housing facility occupied primarily by older   individuals at which congregate nutrition services are provided
  • An individual with a disability who resides at a home with and accompanies an older individual who participates in the program
  • A volunteer under age sixty who provides services during the meal hours

WACOG Case Managers will determine if individuals meet the eligibility to receive homebound meals.  Individuals must be assessed as moderately to severely impaired in two areas of Instrumental Activities of Daily Living in order to be eligible for Home Delivered Meals.  One of the Instrumental Activities of Daily Living must be meal preparation.  Homebound meals are available to the following individuals*:

  • An individual sixty years of age or older who has functional limitations (per Aging and Adult Services Policy and Procedures) which restricts their ability to obtain and prepare appropriate meals within their home and has no other meal preparation assistance.
  • The spouse of an individual defined above, regardless of age or condition where receipt of the meal is in the best interest of the eligible home delivered meal participant.
  • An individual with a disability under age sixty who resides with a person defined above where receipt of the meal is in the best interest of the eligible home delivered meal participant.
  • An individual with a disability, under age sixty, who has functional limitations (per Aging and Adult Services Policy and Procedures) which restricts their ability to obtain and prepare appropriate meals within their home and has no other meal preparation assistance.
