Applications must be completed and turned in to the nearest Sheriff's Office substation.
Qualified candidates must be 18 year of age or older, have good moral character, a good driving record, no felony convictions, no misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude, no use of illegal drugs within the past 3 years, no use of marijuana in the past year, be a current U.S. citizen, pass a background check, and have a valid Arizona driver's license. In addition to the strict enforcement of OUI laws, MCSO waterways personnel suggest that boaters take water safety courses. "A boating safety course will not only teach you essential information such as the meanings of markings on waterways, but they teach you operational techniques that could save your life," said Undersheriff  Ed Trafecanty. The Coast Guard Auxiliary conducts classes regularly. The Mohave County Sheriff's Office is the primary enforcement agency on the Arizona side of Lake Havasu and has boats stationed on the lower Colorado River and Lake Mead as well.

We want everyone on the lake to have a good time, but most of all, we want you to be safe,” said Sheriff Doug Schuster.  “Boating under the influence of alcohol or drugs can be tragic.  When you are out on the lake make sure the person controlling the watercraft is sober to ensure safety and fun for everyone,” said Sheriff Schuster.
